History of Mikuni

In 1990 Mikuni Industries, Corporation (MIC) was issued EPZA Registration No. 90-038 and entered into activities as the manufacture of silkscreen printing machine, metal sorting, engine reconditioning, and fiberglass products such as car bumpers and motorcycle helmets, branching out into the more technically exacting activity of making fiberglass Hull Boats, Leisure Watercrafts and accesories. Mikuni has since made boats ranging from 15-foot up to 45-foot sportfishing and patrol boats. MIC is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Association (ABYC) and the National Marine Manufacturer's Association (NMMA) in America.

In August 2002 MIC completed the construction of a 100-foot party boat, a modernized version of the Yakatabune (Japanese houseboats) "floating restaurant" - the traditional "entertainment" boat popular among the Japanese os the Edo Period (1603-1867) - and set a landmark for the boat-building industry in the Philippines. That Ishikawa-Jima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI), through its Fiberglass Boat Division, AMTEC, has picked MIC to be its partner in building the 100-ft. fiberglass party boat is a brreakthrough since IHI with a history of shipbuilding dating back to 1853, is known as the buider of the biggest battleship in WWII, the Yamato, and the world's biggest tanker in the 70's.

To earn the trust and confidence of IHI, MIC had to undergo rigorous testing, investigation and evaluation of shipbuilding skills and technology, and received commendation of the technical staff of IHI-AMTEC who found MIC's facilities as among the few in the world to have the capability to "build all" (hull boats and accesories), something not commonly found even in the shipbuilding yards of Japan

Yet another test would be hurdled by MIC, this time passing the rigid standards of Japan Government (JG) in the construction of fiberglass vessels of 20 tons gross tonnage and above, JG through its Ministry of Land, Infrastrature and Transport is tasked to inspect and approve MIC's capability to build the boat based on the stringent Japanese Ship Safety Law.

The party boat itself was commissioned to IHI by Harumiya Company, considered the leader in the paarty boat industry after setting new standards in service and facilities. Its unprecedented decision to have its top-of-the-line vessel built outside Japan by MIC has caused excitement in the industry.

Owned by a foreign national who believes in the Filipino's capacity for great things given the right opportunity, MIKUNI is run by and, ultimately, for Filipinos.
